Milot Law has been contacted by a number of former clients of Demara Consulting Inc. in respect of gross negligence penalties that were assessed by the Canada Revenue Agency.
These penalties are similar to the penalties assessed by the CRA in respect of the Fiscal Arbitrators program, except the penalties are being assessed because of T1 Adjustment Requests or T1 Requests for Loss Carryback. Unfortunately, in many cases, the penalties are significant and exceed $200,000. Milot Law is currently filing appeals in the Tax Court of Canada, and will be proceeding with its clients as a group.
