UPDATE: The Individual Tax Filing Deadline has been extended to June 1 2020.

At Milot Law, we believe that action should be taken immediately by the Canada Revenue Agency and the Minister of National Revenue to extend the personal tax filing deadline of April 30th, 2020 by at least two months due to the coronavirus.

Corporate tax return filing deadlines should also be extended and payroll tax remittance obligations should be temporarily suspended immediately. Given the current dire situation, it is difficult for Canadians to safely meet with their accountants or tax advisors to complete their tax filings.

It is not unreasonable to allow Canadians additional time to properly complete their tax filings.

The government’s continued delay is perplexing and needs to be immediately addressed.

With the greatest of respect, you can shutdown a country but you cannot extend tax filings by a bit?
