A Tax Court of Canada judge has slammed the Canada Revenue Agency for its failure to provide taxpayers with an “early warning system”
““These appeals are having a significant impact on the Tax Court, which has only about 20 judges,” says Duane Milot, who represents a number of the taxpayers involved.
According to Milot, the CRA was aware of the frauds in late 2009, but didn’t post warnings on its website until May 2010.
“However, the notice didn’t warn people to beware of particular tax preparers, like Fiscal Arbitrators,” Milot says. “All the caution did was advise people of the risks involved in claiming false business losses, and the trouble with that is that many of my clients were not even aware that what was being claimed were business losses.”…”
